Conditions Supernaturally Revealed--and Healed?
A couple years after graduating from college, we had a Bible study at our house, consisting mostly of college students. It was a very small group. We would worship as I played the guitar, then I would teach some things I had studied in the Bible.
One evening we had about a half-dozen people there, all of whom I knew except for one, Katy. As soon as I got through teaching, I had an impression to ask Katy a personal question of significance in her life. [If you really want to know the specifics, contact me. I am not putting it on the Internet at this time.]
I felt really intimidated to do so.
But why? I can't exactly say--perhaps something about putting her on the
spot. Or maybe because "it was a message from God", and what if I were
wrong???! But God is never wrong, which means that I was wrong about the
impression. [How's that for faith?
Wasn't too strong, huh?]
Then I had the impression (since I didn't ask the first question): "Well then at least ask her [another personal question]." Well as nervous as I was, I felt I had better at least follow this prompting, so I finally asked her this question. Katy immediately blurted out the answer to the first question I was supposed to ask, then we covered the second question!
Well no sooner than I got through praying with her for these two things, IMMEDIATELY the Lord impressed me to pray for her back. You think I would be bold at this point, right? Wrong. Understand, these were all young college students. She was probably 18-19 years old. We had all been standing, sitting, up & down, etc. and I perceived absolutely no disabilities nor discomforts from anyone in the group, nor would I expect it at that age. So what did wimpy George (me) do? I arranged a chair in the center of the room and asked her to sit down in it. I asked the others to lay hands on her, and I prayed for her. BUT I DIDN'T TELL HER WHAT I WAS PRAYING FOR. That is, as I prayed for her back, I did not do so out loud or understandably. She started shaking--very visibly. She said: "I am not used to shaking." I replied: "I'm not either." She said: "I think God was healing my back." I said: "Really?" She said: "My doctor said that I have [I think she said "scoliosis", but it was a word that I didn't know back then]. HE [the doctor] TOLD ME: 'IF GOD DOESN'T HEAL YOU, YOUR BACK WILL NEVER BE RIGHT.' " WOW! So I asked her if she could tell if it's healed. She felt somehow, and bent over, and said: "It's different." She said it seemed to be healed. It didn't hurt, and was difficult for her to give a definitive answer--it would need a doctor's diagnosis, but as far as she could tell it was healed. (I don't recall seeing her ever again.)
It's incredible to me the clarity of the supernatural revelation of God ("words of knowledge" as it is sometimes called) demonstrated in this event. It certainly doesn't seem to me to have happened because of "my faith", because look how weak it was! I just wanted God to do things--perhaps He did too?
